In traditional lacquer crafts in Korea, there is a technique of applying hemp fibers on a wooden body with lacquer to prevent wooden objects from being distorted or cracked due to differences in temperature or humidity.
Not only does this technique increase strength of wooden objects, but the unique texture of hemp fiber is added to the surface and creates special beauty.
The Lacquered Pebble Plates of GALLERY SHILI reinterprets this traditional lacquer technique with a modern touch. Its nature inspired design and the depth of lacquer layering on top of hemp fabrics enhance both practicality and attractivity.
These items are created through close collaboration with the artist, Kowoon Park. Through her calm yet meticulous hands, GALLERY SHILI reinterprets lacquer's unique vitality with a modern sensibility.
